Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy may reduce fatigue in people with inflammatory bowel disease: Results from a controlled trial

Updated

Abstract

After mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, 29% of fatigued IBD patients reported clinically relevant improvement in fatigue after nine months.

  • Fatigue levels remained stable over a nine-month follow-up period after treatment.
  • Few baseline characteristics were significantly different between patients who reported improvement and those who did not.
  • Patients who reported improvement were more frequently unemployed.
  • Secondary outcomes related to fatigue interference, depression, anxiety, and quality of life did not show significant changes during follow-up.
