Using Tiny Gold Nanoparticles to Reduce Early Ovarian Failure Caused by Environmental Pollutants by Controlling Cell Stress and Mitochondrial Cleanup

Updated

Abstract

Administration of GGNPs significantly reverses ovarian and uterine atrophy in a VCD-induced POI mouse model.

  • GGNPs are designed as ultrasmall gold nanoparticles that incorporate reduced glutathione.
  • These nanoparticles alleviate granulosa cell aging caused by the environmental pollutant VCD.
  • GGNPs work by scavenging harmful reactive oxygen species in mitochondria and promoting the cleanup of damaged mitochondria.
  • The treatment restores mitochondrial function and prevents the release of mitochondrial DNA, which can trigger inflammatory responses.
  • GGNP administration normalizes follicle-stimulating hormone levels and inhibits signaling pathways associated with cellular aging without detectable toxicity.
