  • Hyperoxia exposure leads to mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization and subsequent mtDNA leakage.
  • The release of mtDNA activates the cGAS-STING pathway, which is linked to the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).
  • VDAC1 oligomerization plays a critical role in mediating mtDNA release and SASP activation.
  • Targeting the cGAS-STING pathway could offer therapeutic options for managing BPD.
