Abstract
Acute pancreatitis (AP) has a very high death rate and involves complex molecular mechanisms.
- Conventional explanations of AP's local inflammation may not fully account for the varied cell death observed.
- Recent advances suggest that oxidative stress, mitophagy, ferroptosis, and pyroptosis significantly contribute to tissue damage and inflammation in AP.
- There is a lack of systematic understanding of how these four processes interact and regulate each other over time.
