Mobile phones were used by 86% of participants with serious mental illness.

  • 60% of participants used a smartphone.
  • Messaging was the most common phone activity, reported by 81% of users.
  • 52% accessed the Internet, while 46% used email and 45% utilized applications.
  • Older individuals and those with persistent psychotic disorders were less likely to own a smartphone.
  • Worse cognitive functioning was also associated with lower smartphone ownership.
