Updated

Abstract

Mean age of participants was 64.8 years with a mean follow-up of 3.9 years.

  • Higher blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, ischemic heart disease, smoking, and lower education levels are associated with an increase in white matter hyperintensities over time.
  • The presence of the APOE ε4 allele is linked to faster accumulation of amyloid-beta and tau, particularly in amyloid-positive participants.
  • Higher depression scores and diabetes are associated with faster amyloid-beta accumulation.
  • Lower body mass index is associated with faster accumulation of tau.
