Daily changes in brain pathways linked to antidepressant effects in male and female mice

Updated

Abstract

Statistically significant diurnal rhythmicity was observed in all analyzed transcripts in both hippocampal and medial prefrontal cortex samples.

  • Peak expression of cFos, Arc, Nr4a1, Dusp1, Dusp5, and Dusp6 occurred during the dark (active) phase (ZT15-18).
  • Phosphorylation levels of TrkBY816 and GSK3βS9 exhibited temporal patterns, peaking during the light (inactive) phase.
  • p-ERK2T185/Y187 levels did not show rhythmic fluctuations but peaked during the light phase in the hippocampus, particularly in males.
  • Findings suggest that antidepressant-related signaling may be influenced by circadian rhythms, emphasizing the role of time-of-day in antidepressant research.
