Mots-c reduces diabetic kidney damage by lowering LARS1 to boost fat recycling and prevent kidney tubule aging

Updated

Abstract

MOTS-c treatment led to a dose-dependent preservation of urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR).

  • MOTS-c is associated with reduced tubular injury and diminished lipid deposition in diabetic nephropathy.
  • Macrophage accumulation is lowered with MOTS-c treatment.
  • Transcriptomic analyses show significant enrichment in pathways related to aging and lipid metabolism.
  • MOTS-c suppresses markers of cellular aging and restores lipid balance through the regulation of specific proteins.
  • MOTS-c facilitates the clearance of lipid droplets by downregulating LARS1, a modulator of lipophagy.
  • Co-administration of an autophagy inhibitor reversed the protective effects of MOTS-c in diabetic mice.
