Combining multiple molecular analyses shows vaccine-specific patterns and timing of COVID-19 immune responses

Updated

Abstract

Vaccination with different COVID-19 vaccine platforms is associated with distinct systemic molecular response patterns.

  • Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination resulted in widespread increases in immunoglobulin and complement proteins, alongside broad decreases in lipid levels.
  • Moderna vaccination was linked to predominantly increased lipid levels and bidirectional changes in metabolites, with few proteomic alterations.
  • AstraZeneca vaccination produced subtler cross-omic shifts, only identifiable through integrative modelling approaches.
  • Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations shared similar changes in a subset of metabolites related to amino acids and the TCA cycle, despite differing lipidomic contexts.
  • Distinct multi-omic molecular signatures were identified for each vaccine platform, indicating the complexity of immune responses post-vaccination.
