Brain energy molecule levels after taking creatine supplements measured by magnetic resonance

Updated

Abstract

Oral creatine supplementation increased brain creatine levels by 8.1% and 9.3% in healthy male subjects over two weeks.

  • Creatine supplementation was associated with a significant decrease in beta-nucleoside triphosphate levels by 7.8%.
  • A marginal increase in phosphocreatine levels of 3.4% was observed in the creatine group.
  • Brain inorganic phosphate levels increased by 9.8% following creatine supplementation.
  • Changes in brain high-energy phosphate metabolism may be modifiable through oral creatine administration.
