NADH dehydrogenase may help improve metabolic issues related to diet and biological clocks.

Updated

Abstract

Genetic loss of the circadian clock in male mice led to reduced complex I respiration in adipose tissue.

  • Circadian clocks help regulate daily biological processes, including metabolism.
  • Disruption of these clocks is linked to obesity, metabolic disease, and cancer.
  • Reduced complex I respiration was observed in adipocytes from mice lacking the circadian clock and fed a high-fat diet.
  • Impairment of PPAR and insulin signaling pathways was associated with this reduced respiration.
  • Maintaining complex I function protected against metabolic dysfunction despite weight gain.
  • Circadian disruption affects metabolic health by causing dysfunction in mitochondrial complex I.
