The brain cell protein CLPB reduces Huntington's disease symptoms in mice

Updated

Abstract

CLPB overexpression reduced the size of HTT-Q79 aggregates in human cells.

  • Knockout of CLPB in HEK293T cells led to abnormal aggregation of wild-type HTT (HTT-Q23).
  • In HD model mice, CLPB knockdown increased the number of HTT-Q23 aggregates and altered the morphology of HTT-Q79 aggregation.
  • CLPB overexpression in the mouse striatum restored the density and size of inhibitory synapses marked by VGAT.
  • Improved inhibitory synaptic transmission was observed with CLPB overexpression in HD model mice.
  • ClpB may contribute to mitochondrial protein quality control by reducing mitochondrial aggregation burden.
