Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio linked to worse recovery after brain aneurysm bleeding

Updated

Abstract

A significantly higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on admission was observed in patients with unfavorable outcomes after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

  • Patients with unfavorable outcomes at 3 months had a median NLR of 8.3, compared to 5.8 for those with favorable outcomes.
  • Higher NLR on admission was significantly associated with older age, worse clinical status, and greater amounts of hemorrhage.
  • NLR on admission remained a significant predictor for unfavorable outcomes after adjusting for other factors.
  • A cutoff value of 7.05 for NLR was identified to effectively discriminate between favorable and unfavorable outcomes.
  • In propensity score-matched cohorts, a higher proportion of patients with NLR ≥ 7.05 had unfavorable outcomes at 3 months.
