Nicotinamide improves cow embryo quality and chances of successful implantation by adjusting enzymes that remodel tissue

Updated

Abstract

Cleavage and blastocyst formation rates were significantly increased in the nicotinamide (NAM)-treated group (83.62% vs. 80.08% and 37.54% vs. 28.74%, respectively).

  • Nicotinamide treatment during embryo development is associated with improved embryo viability and quality.
  • Lower levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduced mRNA of the apoptosis-related gene caspase-3 were observed in NAM-treated embryos.
  • Higher mRNA levels of the survival genes SOD1 and SOD2 were found in embryos supplemented with NAM.
  • The DNA fragmentation rate was lower in NAM-treated embryos, indicating greater cellular integrity.
  • Embryos supplemented with NAM showed enhanced expression of proteins MMP2 and MMP9 and increased trophoblast invasion rates.
