Abstract

A combined regimen of nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and glucose significantly mitigates tissue injury and body weight loss in mice exposed to hypobaric hypoxia.

  • Hypobaric hypoxia (HH) is associated with iron overload and oxidative stress, which are identified as key pathological factors.
  • The supplementation of NMN and glucose counteracts metabolic disruptions in various tissues affected by HH.
  • HH triggers transferrin-inspired iron delivery that contributes to oxidative stress and depletion of antioxidants such as glutathione.
  • While no significant changes were noted in ferroptotic protein markers, NMN and glucose may reverse metabolic alterations linked to ferroptosis.
  • The findings suggest that NMN combined with glucose alleviates mitochondrial dysfunction in the context of HH-induced multi-organ injury.
