Increasing nicotinamide mononucleotide production by modifying and screening E. coli bacteria

Updated

Abstract

The engineered strain E. coli 2d produced 0.139 g/L of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) using D-ribose and nicotinamide as substrates.

  • This production level is 3.6 times higher than that obtained using glucose as a substrate.
  • A mutant strain, E. coli 2d-C1, yielded 0.91 g/L of NMN, representing a 6.5-fold increase compared to the unmutated strain.
  • The study utilized recombinant plasmids to develop a whole-cell catalytic reaction pathway for NMN production.
  • The approach emphasizes the use of cost-effective synthetic substrates to enhance NMN production.
