Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) may improve egg quality in spotted scat by boosting estrogen signals, changing ovarian metabolism, lowering oxidative stress, and reducing cell death

Updated

Abstract

Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) injection significantly increased ovarian NAD levels and serum 17β-estradiol concentrations.

  • NMN improved glucose and lipid metabolism, evidenced by elevated insulin levels and reduced serum glucose, total cholesterol, and triglycerides.
  • Significant enrichment of pathways related to metabolism, stress response, and apoptosis was identified through KEGG analysis.
  • The expression of steroidogenesis-related genes and antioxidant genes was upregulated following NMN supplementation.
  • NMN incubation resulted in reduced reactive oxygen species accumulation and increased glutathione levels, enhancing mitochondrial function.
  • Increased mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP production were observed after NMN treatment in ovarian follicles.
