  • NLRP3 inflammasome activation involves signals like amyloid-β aggregates and oxidative stress.
  • This activation leads to the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18.
  • Caspase-1 and caspase-11 (or caspase-4/5 in humans) are key mediators in two pathways of NLRP3 activation.
  • Phytochemicals, such as resveratrol and saffron, may inhibit NLRP3 assembly and reduce neuroinflammation.
  • Targeting NLRP3 inflammasome activation with phytochemicals could help protect neurons in Alzheimer's disease.
