How Well Non-Drug Treatments Reduce Fatigue in Long COVID: Review and Analysis of Controlled Studies

Updated

Abstract

Non-pharmacological interventions significantly reduced fatigue in 1,276 participants with long COVID (SMD = -0.43, p < 0.001).

  • Exercise training demonstrated a significant reduction in fatigue severity (SMD = -0.64, p = 0.006).
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy, non-invasive neuromodulation, and nutritional supplementation did not show statistically significant benefits.
  • Interventions lasting 8 weeks or longer were linked to greater improvements in fatigue.
  • Substantial heterogeneity was observed among the studies (I² = 72.1%).
  • Further high-quality trials are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of various non-pharmacological approaches.
