Development and Testing of New STK3/4 Blockers That May Help Reduce Obesity

Updated

Abstract

Obesity is associated with impaired adipocyte metabolism driven in part by mitochondrial dysfunction.

  • Mitochondrial dysfunction may contribute to metabolic issues in obesity.
  • STK3 and STK4 are proteins that promote the removal of damaged mitochondria (mitophagy) in fat cells.
  • Reduced mitochondrial mass in adipose tissue could be a consequence of increased mitophagy.
  • Inhibiting STK3/4 may offer a new approach to treat obesity and related metabolic disorders.
