New synthetic molecules targeting cell aging in age-related lung scarring

Updated

Abstract

Compound 25 (UCM-17017) decreases β-galactosidase activity in senescent human fibroblasts.

  • A novel bioactive compound was identified through screening a library of small molecules targeting cellular senescence.
  • UCM-17017 selectively reduces the viability of senescent lung cancer cells compared to proliferative cells.
  • The compound shows a favorable pharmacokinetic profile in living organisms.
  • It induces a beneficial effect in a mouse model of pulmonary fibrosis, a disease associated with cellular senescence.
