Mean energy intake among 56 young female elite football players was 2262 kcal/d.

  • Estimated energy expenditure averaged 2403 kcal/d.
  • Fifty-three percent of players had energy availability below 30 kcal/kg lean body mass.
  • Thirty-one percent of athletes consumed less than 5 g/kg of carbohydrates.
  • Thirty-four percent consumed less than 1.2 g/kg of proteins.
  • Seventy-five percent had folate intakes below the recommended daily allowance.
  • Ferritin and 25-hydroxyvitamin D serum levels were below recommendations in 59% and 38% of players, respectively.
