Bone-building cell problems linked to reduced removal of damaged mitochondria in simulated weightlessness

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Simulated microgravity impaired osteoblast growth and differentiation while linking mitochondrial damage to reduced PINK1/Parkin-related .

Evidence

This was an in vitro simulated-microgravity osteoblast study using rotary cell culture, proliferation, apoptosis, osteogenic staining, mitochondrial assays, TEM, and icariin treatment.

Caveat

The findings come from a cell model with a preliminary small-molecule probe, not from animal or human bone-loss outcomes.
