Otx5 controls daily rhythm genes in the zebrafish pineal gland

Updated

Abstract

Crx and Otx5 are expressed in both the pineal organ and parapineal of larval zebrafish.

  • The photoneuroendocrine system translates light conditions into biological signals.
  • In the mouse, inactivation of Crx leads to decreased pineal gene expression and disrupted light/dark cycle entrainment.
  • Reduction of Crx expression does not affect circadian gene expression in zebrafish.
  • Depletion of Otx5 specifically inhibits circadian gene expression in the zebrafish pineal complex.
  • Otx5, rather than Crx, is associated with the regulation of circadian genes in zebrafish.
