Balance of Body Oxidation and Its Link to Gout Risk: A Study from 2007-2018

Updated

Abstract

The highest quartile of the Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) is associated with a 0.72 odds ratio for gout compared to the lowest quartile.

  • A total of 10,492 participants were analyzed in this cross-sectional study.
  • The OBS is calculated using 16 dietary and four lifestyle factors to evaluate oxidative stress.
  • Higher OBS levels may correlate with a lower prevalence of gout.
  • A negative linear relationship between OBS and gout was observed, although not statistically significant.
  • Diabetes may influence the observed relationship between OBS and gout risk.
