Injection of a boosted mRNA vaccine triggers protective gut immunity against rotavirus in newborn mice

Updated

Abstract

Essence

An Am80-adjuvanted mRNA lipid nanoparticle vaccine may induce gut-homing immunity and reduce rotavirus diarrhea in neonatal mice.

Evidence

Preclinical vaccine studies in mice and Bama miniature pigs measured serum, cellular, and intestinal IgA responses, with live rotavirus challenge in neonatal mice.

Caveat

Protection was demonstrated in neonatal mice and animal immune models, with no human efficacy, durability, or rare-adverse-event data.
