How Patient Access to Electronic Health Records May Change Medical Documentation: Review Plan

Updated

Abstract

This is the first scoping review examining changes in documentation practices after implementing patient-accessible electronic health records (PAEHRs).

  • The review will analyze both subjective and objective changes in health care professionals' documentation following the introduction of PAEHRs.
  • Only studies related to actual user experiences with PAEHRs will be included in the review.
  • Potential outcomes may either support or contradict existing beliefs about the impact of PAEHRs on clinical documentation.
  • Findings may inform clinicians on best practices for writing notes and highlight research gaps in the field.
