Locations of Peptide YY and Fish Pancreatic Peptide Y in the Sea Bass Brain

Updated

Abstract

PYY and PY gene expression was predominantly detected within the sea bass forebrain.

  • PYY gene expression was localized to the ventral part of the ventral telencephalon.
  • No PY expression was found in the cerebral hemispheres of the sea bass.
  • Both PYY and PY mRNAs were present in the preoptic area and lateral hypothalamus.
  • Distinct groups of PY mRNA were located in the pretectal area, while PYY transcripts were found in the synencephalon or posterior tubercle.
  • PY gene expression was observed in the medial reticular formation, and PYY was found in the vagal lobe.
  • The findings support the idea that PP and PY evolved from PYY through independent gene duplications.
