Updated

Abstract

A total of 135,333 patients underwent total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) from 2016 to 2020.

  • Perioperative IV dexamethasone use increased by 135% during the study period.
  • Patients receiving IV dexamethasone did not show increased odds of periprosthetic joint infection or wound complications.
  • Those treated with IV dexamethasone had lower odds of sepsis (odds ratio 0.67) and other medical complications.
  • There was a trend towards decreased 90-day hospital readmission in patients receiving IV dexamethasone.
