Abstract
Following 102 first-time psychedelic users and 1066 never-users, small changes in personality traits were observed over one year.
- First-time psychedelic users showed small relative increases in Openness and decreases in Conscientiousness.
- After adjusting for factors like age, sex, and psychiatric diagnosis, the changes in Openness and Conscientiousness remained directionally similar.
- The changes in personality traits were not clearly different from those observed in first-time users of other illicit substances.
- First-time users with psychiatric diagnoses may experience larger reductions in Neuroticism.
- Findings indicate small personality changes after first-time psychedelic use, though causal interpretations are limited.
