Using genetic factors and timing to improve heart protection during heart attacks.

Abstract
Essence
Metoprolol's benefit in acute myocardial infarction appeared to depend on ADRB1 genotype and morning symptom onset.
Evidence
This non-pre-specified exploratory analysis of the METOCARD-CNIC trial, supported by docking studies and male mouse knockout experiments, found smaller infarcts only in ADRB1 Arg389 homozygotes and when AMI began between 6:00 and 12:00 h.
Caveat
Because the human result came from an exploratory subgroup analysis and was partly supported by animal and in-silico data, the personalization signal remains preliminary.
