Removing immune cells reduces inflammation and aging signs in old mouse kidneys

Updated

Abstract

High-dose PLX5622 significantly reduced macrophage numbers in young and aged murine kidneys.

  • Aged kidneys exhibited increased levels of inflammatory and senescence markers, including p16, IL-6, and F4/80-positive macrophages.
  • Low-dose PLX5622 treatment decreased macrophage abundance and inflammatory markers in aged kidneys without raising blood urea nitrogen levels.
  • High-dose PLX5622 was associated with elevated blood urea nitrogen levels despite reducing macrophage numbers.
  • CSF1R-sensitive macrophages may play a role in age-related inflammation and cellular aging in the kidney.
