Phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitors may extend worm lifespan and reduce cell aging in mouse cells

Updated

Abstract

PDE4 inhibitors roflumilast and rolipram extend C. elegans lifespan.

  • Roflumilast reduces cellular senescence in mouse embryonic fibroblasts.
  • Protein kinase A activation may mediate the anti-aging effects of PDE4 inhibitors.
  • Improvement in mitochondrial function and reduction of oxidative stress are associated with PDE4 inhibitor treatment.
  • The mechanisms observed in C. elegans appear to be conserved in mouse embryonic fibroblasts.
