Higher levels of pinopsin RNA in chicken pineal glands with inactive guanylate cyclase-1

Updated

Abstract

The amount of pinopsin mRNA in *B pineal is significantly higher than in normal pineal under both light and dark conditions.

  • The absence of guanylate cyclase-1 in *B chickens results in increased basal levels of pinopsin mRNA.
  • Light exposure induces an increase in pinopsin mRNA levels in the *B pineal gland.
  • The increase in pinopsin mRNA in response to light is comparable between *B and normal pineal glands.
  • Changes in pinopsin mRNA regulation in the *B pineal gland do not correlate with alterations in tryptophan 5-hydroxylase mRNA levels.
