Treatments for Pityriasis Rosea

Updated

Abstract

Acyclovir probably leads to increased medical practitioner-rated rash improvement compared to placebo or no treatment.

  • Oral acyclovir may significantly improve rash severity when compared with placebo.
  • Evidence regarding the effect of acyclovir on itch resolution is inconclusive.
  • Erythromycin probably reduces itch more effectively than placebo, based on low- to moderate-quality evidence.
  • There is probably no difference in itch resolution or rash improvement between azithromycin and placebo or vitamins.
  • In trials comparing acyclovir with no treatment, no serious adverse events were reported.
