Small particles from platelets may cause aging in CD8+ T cells in chronic kidney disease by transferring microRNA-550a-5p

Updated

Abstract

CD8+ T cell senescence may be a major contributor to the immunosuppressed state in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

  • Platelets derived from CKD patients may induce premature CD8+ T cell senescence.
  • This induction could occur through the mediation of mitochondrial dysfunction.
  • Platelet-derived microparticles (PMPs) from CKD patients promote CD8+ T cell senescence by transferring miR-550a-5p.
  • The transfer of miR-550a-5p decreases PMPCB expression and induces failure in NDUFS8 cleavage.
  • Inhibition of miR-550a-5p and pretreatment with nicotinamide mononucleotide may prevent platelet-induced CD8+ T cell senescence.
