Poliumoside reduces cell damage and boosts energy production to ease stroke injury

Updated

Abstract

POL treatment significantly improved motor coordination and reduced cerebral infarct volume in a mouse model of ischemic stroke.

  • POL treatment alleviated neuronal damage and apoptosis in mice following ischemic injury.
  • Decreased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were observed with POL treatment, indicating reduced brain oxidative stress.
  • In Neuro-2a cells, POL increased cell viability and improved mitochondrial function in a dose-dependent manner.
  • Activation of the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway was associated with POL, promoting the translocation of Nrf2 and upregulating protective proteins.
  • POL also modulated autophagy and exhibited anti-apoptotic effects by regulating key proteins involved in cell survival.
