A sugar from Alhagi honey protects the gut lining and influences key cell defense and inflammation pathways to treat alcohol-related liver disease in mice

Updated

Abstract

AHPN80 therapy significantly improved liver parameters in a mouse model of alcohol-induced acute liver injury.

  • AHPN80 reduced serum levels of lipopolysaccharide and proinflammatory cytokines while increasing anti-inflammatory markers.
  • The treatment decreased lipid accumulation and reactive oxygen species production in liver tissues.
  • AHPN80 improved alcohol-induced inflammatory damage to hepatocytes and inhibited hepatocyte apoptosis.
  • Activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway by AHPN80 may help eliminate oxidative stress in the liver.
  • AHPN80 may also repair the intestinal barrier and modulate the TLR4/MAPK signaling pathway to reduce liver inflammation.
