Methods to Identify and Distinguish Similar Chemical Isomers of N-(2-Methoxybenzyl)-2-(Trimethoxyphenyl)ethanamines Using Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry

Updated

Abstract

Differentiation of positional isomers of the TMPEA-NBOMe series was achieved using gas chromatography at 230°C.

  • TMPEA-NBOMe compounds are known psychotomimetics, with varying legal statuses based on their psychoactive effects.
  • Positional isomers may lack psychoactive effects due to the arrangement of methoxy groups on the phenylethyl moiety.
  • Gas chromatography successfully separated trifluoroacetyl derivatives of these isomers, allowing for identification based on retention indices.
  • Electron ionization mass spectrometry revealed significant spectral differences among the isomers, aiding in their differentiation.
  • A derivatization-free method using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry is also proposed for analysis.
