Does Nirmatrelvir-Ritonavir Lower Post-COVID Risks in Young People and Adults?

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Nirmatrelvir-ritonavir during acute COVID-19 was linked to lower post-COVID condition risk in older adults, but not in adolescents.

Evidence

This retrospective matched claims cohort compared 291433 treated high-risk patients with 582866 untreated patients and tracked new coded post-COVID conditions from 60 days onward across age groups.

Caveat

The claims-based observational design defined post-COVID conditions through recorded diagnoses and symptoms, and the apparent benefit was age-specific, with minimal effect in adults 18-49 and no effect in adolescents 12-17.
