PTSD symptoms after using psychedelics in a real-world survey

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Difficult psychedelic experiences were associated with later self-reported PTSD symptoms in a selected survey sample.

Evidence

This cross-sectional online survey of 243 people with distressing psychedelic experiences persisting beyond the acute phase found that 31.3% met DSM-5 PTSD criteria by self-report measures.

Caveat

Because the convenience sample targeted people with highly challenging experiences, the results cannot estimate PTSD prevalence among all psychedelic users.
