Children's immune profiles before vaccination linked to their COVID-19 vaccine response

Updated

Abstract

Twenty-one participants with inborn errors of immunity were stratified as high or low vaccine responders based on anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike IgG titers at day 28 post-vaccination.

  • Low responders had significantly lower frequencies of switched memory B cells compared to high responders.
  • Forty-one genes showed different expression levels between high and low responders at baseline.
  • High responders demonstrated greater induction of genes related to activation and memory in specific immune cells.
  • Distinct pre-vaccination gene expression patterns are associated with varied humoral responses to mRNA vaccination in this population.
  • Baseline molecular immune characteristics may influence vaccine effectiveness in individuals with compromised immunity.
