Pregnancy outcomes linked to mothers' use of GLP-1 receptor agonist medications: a combined review and analysis

Abstract

Over 40,000 pregnancies were analyzed, revealing no significant increase in congenital malformations associated with maternal exposure to glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists.

  • Maternal exposure to glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists during pregnancy is not linked to a significant increase in any congenital malformations.
  • First-trimester exposure does not significantly raise the risk of major congenital malformations.
  • No significant risk increase is observed for stillbirth, spontaneous abortion, small for gestational age, or preterm birth.
  • A significant association for urinary malformations is noted, but relies on unadjusted data and may reflect residual confounding.
  • Overall evidence regarding reproductive safety remains low in certainty.
