Probiotic supplementation over 12 weeks showed limited and heterogeneous effects on biological markers in older adults with varying cognitive status.

  • No increased DNA damage was detected after probiotic supplementation, indicating a lack of genotoxicity.
  • Changes in inflammatory and neurotrophic markers appeared to be more influenced by time and diagnostic category than by the probiotic treatment.
  • Exploratory results indicated a potential increase in nerve growth factor (NGF) in the mild cognitive impairment subgroup, although this was not consistent across all biomarkers.
  • No significant changes in stool consistency were observed from before to after the intervention.
  • The probiotic formulation was deemed safe but did not elicit broad biological changes across the measured outcomes.
