Methods and approaches in psilocybin therapy for depression: A systematic review

Updated

Abstract

A total of 28 psychotherapy protocols for psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy (PAP) were reviewed.

  • All reviewed protocols included preparatory and integration sessions surrounding the psychedelic dosing session.
  • Considerable variability was found in aspects such as the duration and number of therapy sessions.
  • Inconsistencies in the therapeutic models used were noted across the different protocols.
  • Limitations were identified due to a lack of clarity in describing therapeutic approaches.
  • No validated or universally agreed upon protocol for PAP currently exists.
