Effectiveness and Safety of One Dose of Psilocybin for Long-Term Suicidal Thoughts

Updated

Abstract

A single 25-mg dose of psilocybin resulted in a mean reduction of 13.95 in suicidal ideation scores by week 3.

  • Significant reductions in suicidal ideation were observed at week 1 and week 12 as well, with mean differences of 15.10 and 13.00, respectively.
  • At week 12, 70% of participants achieved a suicidal ideation score of 2 or lower.
  • Depressive symptoms also showed significant improvements, with reductions in scores ranging from 17.55 to 20.50 at all postbaseline time points.
  • No serious adverse events were reported during the study.
  • The findings suggest that psilocybin with psychological support may provide rapid and durable relief from chronic suicidal ideation and depression.
