Psilocybin’s effects on weight loss from diet in obese mice after one dose

Updated

Abstract

Essence

A single psilocybin dose appeared to amplify weight loss in obese mice only when paired with a switch to low-fat chow.

Evidence

This preclinical mouse experiment measured body weight, food intake, and energy expenditure for four weeks in diet-induced obese mice after psilocybin under low-fat chow or continued high-fat diet conditions.

Caveat

Psilocybin did not reduce weight or food intake in mice maintained on a high-fat diet, so the effect appears adjunctive and condition-dependent.
