High dose psilocybin causes immediate behavior changes but no lasting place preference in rats

Psilocybin at 10 mg/kg does not cause conditioned place preference in rats.

  • High doses of psilocybin may not have reinforcing effects, as indicated by the lack of conditioned place preference.
  • Behavioral changes included increased head twitching and defecation while grooming and rearing decreased.
  • Behavioral differences observed during testing disappeared 48 hours after the last psilocybin injection.
  • Further research could help clarify the potential addiction risks of psychedelics using various methods.
