Mystical experiences from psilocybin combined with meditation and spiritual practices may lead to lasting positive changes in mental health and kindness

Updated

Abstract

High-dose psilocybin administration is associated with large significant positive changes in traits like interpersonal closeness and gratitude at 6 months.

  • Participants receiving high-dose psilocybin reported greater acute and lasting effects compared to those receiving very low-dose.
  • Both high-dose groups demonstrated significant improvements in measures of life meaning, forgiveness, and daily spiritual experiences.
  • Rates of meditation and spiritual practices contributed to the enduring effects observed in participants.
  • A mystical-type experience induced by psilocybin may be a key factor in promoting lasting changes in prosocial attitudes and psychological well-being.
