Repeated psilocybin doses for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder in a clinical trial

Updated

Abstract

Up to 73.3% of participants showed a significant reduction in obsessive-compulsive symptoms after receiving multiple doses of psilocybin.

  • Psilocybin was generally well-tolerated, with no serious adverse events reported.
  • No significant changes in suicide severity scores were observed throughout the study.
  • Participants receiving psilocybin had a significant reduction in OCD severity as measured by the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS).
  • After the treatment, 40% of participants were in remission from their OCD symptoms.
  • The positive effects on OCD symptoms diminished but remained substantial at 6 months post-treatment.
  • A post hoc analysis indicated that higher cumulative doses of psilocybin correlated with greater reductions in YBOCS scores.
